With the children home for the holidays, it's essential to maintain the right balance of indoor comfort for everyone. The kids might be coming and going, letting bursts of cold air in as they open doors. We've prepared several tips to help everyone enjoy the cozy warmth of your home throughout the winter holidays.

  1. Don’t set the temperature too high and ensure heating mode is set

It can be tempting to raise the heating temperature indoors to warm the home faster; however, this can lead to increased energy use with minimal comfort gains. Instead, in winter, it's important to ensure the air conditioner mode is set to heating. Setting the temperature at a recommended 23 degrees Celsius will help create a comfortable environment and reduce energy consumption.

  2. Maximise family comfort and minimise consumption

Programming the operation of heating systems will help provide a stable level of comfort throughout the day. Starting the heating process in the morning when the air inside and outside the home is cooler will help reach the set temperature quicker without making the system work hardest during the coldest parts of the day.

  3. Use Wi-Fi technology to manage heating systems from smart devices

Smart technology makes it easy to control a heater from the desk using a smartphone or tablet or using voice command when available. Fujitsu General offers a suite of Wi-Fi controller options for new and existing systems up to 10 years old, enabling individual heating zones, timers, and unique optimization to provide comfort across the day to suit individual and collective needs.

  4. Control the areas being heated to avoid wasting energy

Optimize heater use during the extreme temperatures of winter by warming the spaces where the home office is set up and where the kids will spend most of their time. Ducted heating systems enable this using zone control, which directs airflow to specified areas within the home. However, if a smaller home or unit has one wall-mounted unit installed in the living area, and the home office is set up in another room, consider relocating to the living room on those really cold days. Also, close doors to rooms not being used during the day to guide the warm air to where it’s needed.

  5. Keep the indoor and outdoor units clean

Dust and debris can build up on both the indoor and outdoor units, restricting airflow. This can cause the system to work harder, leading to higher energy usage and increased running costs. Wipe them down, and clean the indoor unit filters regularly.

Maintaining a comfortable and warm environment will keep the household happy during the holidays, helping to avoid conflicts and exhaustion from the cold.
