Energy efficiency tips in air conditioning

Bright and airy living room with a wall-mounted energy-efficient air conditioner. Designed for comfort, it features natural light, indoor plants, and well-arranged furniture to enhance airflow, reduce energy use, and create a sustainable, cosy atmosphere.

How do I make my air conditioner more energy efficient?

While you cannot make an existing air conditioning unit more efficient, you can assist the unit to operate more efficiently by closing doors and windows, using the right sized air conditioner, ensuring your filters are clean and that there are no obstructions around the indoor and outdoor unit impeding airflow.

What is energy efficiency in air conditioning units?

There are a number of factors that can contribute to an energy efficient air conditioning system. Outside of energy efficiency ratings, there are several factors that can contribute to an energy efficient air conditioner? Modern advancements in hardware, such as inverter technology and variable speed compressors, enable air conditioning systems to operate more efficiently.

Many energy efficient air conditioning units also come equipped with variable modes of operation. Available on most of Fujitsu General’s air conditioners, the Economy Mode slightly alters the target temperature, typically by a single degree. This change in temperature reduces the load on the compressor, lowering its energy consumption. Even though this adjustment may seem minimal, over time it can lead to significant energy savings.

Zone control is also an important factor to consider if your house runs a ducted air conditioner. By only cooling or heating, certain rooms or zones, the amount of energy your air conditioner needs is greatly reduced.

5 ways to reduce your air conditioning bill

There are a number of ways to reduce the energy consumption of your air conditioner, which may subsequently lower your electricity bills. Here are Fujitsu General’s top 5 tips on making the most of your energy efficient air conditioning unit:

  1. Set daily or weekly timers
Using your air conditioner’s timer function is the perfect way of ensuring you return home to a comfortable living environment, while minimising energy consumption.

  2. Use efficient operating modes
Economy Mode is designed to maximise the energy efficiency of your air conditioner, limiting fan speed and compressor cycles while maintaining the desired temperature. Sleep Mode allows you to run the unit’s fan mode at night to keep bedrooms cool while you sleep.

  3. Set your thermostat higher during the day
If the weather is going to be extremely hot, you can pre-cool your home by switching on your air conditioner at a higher temperature than it would normally be set to. Your home will maintain a more consistent temperature, reducing the strain on your air conditioner later in the day when the temperature outside heats up.

  4. Insulate your home
An insulated room greatly lowers the amount of power required to bring the area to a comfortable temperature. Adding insulation to internal walls will also assist.

  5. Close windows, doors and blinds
Closing windows and doors, and drawing curtains or blinds helps create a barrier between the weather outside and your house, removing temperature fluctuations and enabling easier cooling of your home

What temperature to set air conditioner in summer in Australia

Summer in Australia is notoriously hot and dry. These conditions often have people turning to their air conditioners to provide a comfortable home. However, as counter-intuitive as it sounds, the most effective way to beat the heat in summer is not to set your air conditioner to its coldest temperature.

Instead, Fujitsu General recommends that you set your air conditioner to between 22 and 24 degrees in summer. This temperature range provides a comfortable living environment while maximising energy efficiency.

An introduction to Smart Heating and Cooling

Fujitsu General’s smart climate control solutions offer the ultimate in connected, power efficient air conditioners. Our anywAiR® technology climate control air conditioners like the Lifestyle Next range enables you to control the indoor climate of your home with the myanywAiR® Next app.

Another impressive functionality of the myanywAiR® Next app is the climate react feature. Climate react allows homeowners to program a set of rules for their air conditioner, such as automatically switching the unit on and off at certain temperatures. Climate react can be used in conjunction with the geofencing technology, enabling you to program your air conditioner to switch itself on or off based on your location and proximity to your home.

Smart heating and cooling technology offered by the anywAiR technology Wi-Fi adaptor II is compatible with select air conditioners from Fujitsu General, including the Lifestyle Range of energy efficient split system units.
