As co-major partner of the Essendon Football Club, Fujitsu General Australia welcomed the opportunity to sponsor this year’s AFL Grand Final Comedy Debate, held in Melbourne’s Crown Palladium on Thursday 28 September. 

Hosted by the Essendon Women’s Network, the annual event recognises women who have significantly contributed to one of Australia’s favourite sports.

Fujitsu General’s managing director, Philip Perham, presented the Football Woman of the Year award to Bec Goddard, senior coach of the Adelaide Football Club.

Speaking on the day, Philip Perham added: “Already a main partner of Essendon Football Club, we’re proud to be involved with the Essendon Women’s Network annual Grand Final Comedy Debate.

“Fujitsu has been a key supporter of the Essendon Football Club’s push for an AFLW licence and we’re excited to be part of this history making era in AFL and women’s sport."

“Similarly, to AFL, the air conditioning industry can be seen as a male dominated one. Traditionally that has been the case, however over recent years the industry has become far more inclusive of women participating in greater numbers at all levels.”

“Fujitsu General believes in recognising valuable employees regardless of gender, and supporting them through workplace flexibility initiatives,” said Perham.

“The success of this evolution has become evident not only within our business, with more women enrolling in engineering courses and breaking into the air conditioning industry, it’s also being seen in the world of sport.”

The comedy debate ran after the awards with comedians: Charlie Pickering, Claire Hooper, Dilruk Jayasinha, Lawrence Mooney, Jo Stanley and Geraldine Hickey, debating ‘Do AFL players deserve their pay rises?’ The ‘negative’ team’ won the debate.
