Fujitsu Community Support

Community Support Competition:

As part of the Fujitsu ‘Support Your Local Sports Club’ competition, clubs were nominated for a prize fund that included cash and Fujitsu Air Conditioning. Mark Taylor, brand ambassador for Fujitsu General believes the prizes can play a direct role in boosting the viability of the winning clubs.

I think people are always finding reasons these days not to join clubs,” he said. “We’re always time poor or sometimes when we get there, the facilities aren’t great so they think we may as well stay home.

“If you can make these clubs attractive to people to make that little bit of effort to get along, it helps them physically and mentally. There’s no doubt about that. It also fosters that sense of community, which is very important.

Meet the winners:

WINNER OF 2GB RADIO COMPETITION, SYDNEY

Camden Sports Club

Known as ‘Sporties’, Camden Sports Club had a wretched time in 2022, hit by flooding no less than three times. A beloved hub for lawn bowls and more, Sporties relied on the local community to undertake a massive clean-up operation each time. They also needed replacement furniture, technology, know-how and of course money to get back on their feet.

“We had an air conditioner that went down and it’s still down, so what an opportune time this has come. That $10,000 cash and $5,000 in air con will be put to good use because if it wasn’t for the clubs in the network that came in to help us, there would be a lot of elderly people and young people that wouldn’t have their place to go and socialise.”

WINNER OF 6PR RADIO COMPETITION, PERTH

Glen Forrest Tennis Club

Glen Forrest Tennis Club opened in 1904, but suffered a devastating fire in November 2022 that wiped out most of its history. Honour boards, trophies and shields were all lost, and the community was left without a clubhouse

“We’ve been left without facilities and unable to provide for visiting senior and junior pennant teams. The fire completely melted the old air conditioner so a brand new one will be vital to keeping the clubhouse cool in the hot summer months. We are incredibly grateful to 6PR and Fujitsu for helping us get back on track. This cash grant will be a massive help in allowing us to restore and preserve our extensive history.”

JACK RUSSELL

COMMITTEE MEMBER OF GLEN FORREST TENNIS CLUB.

WINNER OF 4BC RADIO COMPETITION, BRISBANE

Albany Creek Brumbies

Established in 1986, Albany Creek Brumbies is a rugby union club for boys and girls aged 5 to 18. The prize money is going to be used to help build facilities to boost the competitions and development of the junior players.

“It’s my son’s second year with the Brumbies and he’ll be there for a few years to come, so it’s a good way to give back to the club. A lot of the parents were appreciative of being nominated. They’re going to build a gym for training the younger kids, under 9s to 16s, and they’ll install an air conditioner too.”

WINNER OF 3AW RADIO COMPETITION, MELBOURNE

Northern Stars Little Athletics Club

Catering for kids aged 5 to 16, Northern Stars Little Athletics Club believes that family, fun and fitness are the most important aspects of Little Athletics — winning is not everything, but doing your personal best is.

“Thanks to Fujitsu’s generous $10,000 community grant, our club can update our old athletic equipment, subsidise fees to attract more athletes (especially young girls who tend to fall away from sport in their teens) and help pay for training for our coaches and volunteers. The $5000 in Fujitsu air conditioning will be welcomed each scorching week of our summer competition, providing cool relief for all.”
